The helicopter crew made the difficult decision to land to check on the children at a local school. The village is surrounded on all sides by flood water caused by Tropical Storm Noel. SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – Coast Guard crews offload a pregnant woman that was suffering from severe dehydration. The helicopter crew airlifted the woman from the mountain city of San Jose De Ocoa, Dominican Republic. The Coast Guard has saved three people suffering from severe illnesses in the city of San Jose De Ocoa today. The mountain city is cut off form supply lines because of severe mudslides and flooding associated with Tropical Storm Noel. SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Ryan White from Air Station Miami carries a sick child off of a helicopter from Air Station Borinquen, Puerto Rico. The child was suffering from acute appendicitis and was airlifted by the helicopter crew from San Jose De Ocoa, Dominican Republic. Peace Corps volunteers have helped in rescue operations. 10 PC volunteers in Barahona, Bahoruco, and Independencia are helping World Vision, International Plan, and FUNDASUR. 15 PC volunteers are working in Santo Domingo with USAID to make sure that provisions reach the ones who need them most. Volunteers in San Jose de Ocoa, Bani, Sanchez Ramirez, and Duarte are supporting local efforts to help those who have had loss of property and are helping to assess future risks and dangers.
