Changing the way we communicate, the new way to contact American Citizens Services

July 16, 2012

The Consular Section is pleased to announce the integration of the American Citizen Services unit to the Consular Public Liaison Hub has been completed.  The Consular Public Liaison Hub is a communication structure that allows for better connectivity between our officers and American citizens. This integration will improve the quality of customer service provided by the Consular Section by ensuring emergency cases are addressed quickly while still providing access to information for routine questions.

If you haven’t already, we invite you to visit the Embassy’s website at http://santodomingo.usembassy.gov for information on services provided to American citizens.  This will covers areas like If how to make an appointment, applications for U.S. passports, Reports of Birth Abroad for children born in the Dominican Republic to an American citizen parent, notary services, smart traveler program, special family issues, disaster/hurricane preparations, fees and forms of payment.  If you have an inquiry for the American Citizen Services unit that the website cannot answer, please email SDOAmericans@state.gov.  You will receive a response within two business days.

For emergencies involving an American citizen during business hours (0730-1630 Monday through Thursday; 0730-1100 on Friday) please contact (809) 731-4294.  Emergencies may include an American who is arrested, missing, or hospitalized.  Also you can request a Welfare and Whereabouts visit, victims of crime, or to report a death.  For emergencies outside of business hours, please contact (809) 221-2171 and dial 0 when the recording answers.  The Embassy cannot pay medical, legal, or burial costs for American citizens.  However, we can help American citizens contact friends or family members for assistance.  We can also help American citizens locate appropriate legal or medical services in the Dominican Republic.

If you have an inquiry about Social Security benefits or you would like to schedule an appointment for Social Security services, please contact the Social Security Administration directly at FBU.SantoDomingo@ssa.gov or by phone at (809) 731-4371.
