I filled out the DS-160 Visa Application online, why have I not received an appointment date?

October 10, 2011

Recently the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo announced that appointments for nonimmigrant visas can be made online. Now both the application and the appointment can be made online. It is important to remember that the application and the interview appointment are two separate processes. An applicant needs to fill out the DS-160 application form online at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/. Separately, an applicant has two options in making an appointment: scheduling an appointment online, or buying a PIN from Banco Popular and call the U.S. Visa Information Service call center.

In order to schedule an appointment online an applicant must visit https://usvisa-info.com/en-DO/selfservice/login. An online appointment costs $10, six dollars less than using the Call Center.  An applicant can make an appointment 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

In order to schedule an appointment through the call center, applicants must purchase a Personal Identification Number (PIN) valid for 15 minutes from any branch of Banco Popular.  After purchasing the PIN, applicants may contact the Visa Information Center 24 hours later at 1-809-200-3232 from the Dominican Republic. If you are calling from the United States dial 1-877-804-5402 to make an appointment. If you are calling from the United States, you must use an international Visa or MasterCard to pay for the appointment, not a PIN.

After making an appointment, regardless of the method, an applicant still must pay the visa application processing fee of US$140 to Banco Popular. Remember, the online application is separate from making an appointment; both must be done prior to the interview.
