New Non-Immigrant Visa Internet Appointment System
The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce that a new internet appointment system will soon be available for nonimmigrant applicants in the Dominican Republic. The anticipated launch of this internet based system is August 16, 2011. Applicants will be able to make their own appointments; the cost per appointment will be lower; and there is no longer a need to buy a PIN from Popular Bank.
Applicants will only be able to access the appointment system once they have completed their applications (DS-160) and paid the visa fee at Popular Bank. It will no longer be necessary to purchase a PIN to access the new system. Once on the appointment website, applicants can pay the fee for making the appointment with a valid credit card - local or U.S. Then, it will be possible to use the new system to schedule your own appointment.
One advantage of the new system is that it can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection. Applicants can schedule their appointment from their home computer or anywhere else. Another advantage is that the cost is much lower for applicants. It will only cost $10 to schedule the appointment from the online system. Additionally, applicants will have more ability to choose a more convenient appointment time according to their travel plans. The internet scheduler will present a number of choices from which to choose. This system is being designed to better serve applicants and make the process easier.
Applicants will still be able to schedule appointments by phone by purchasing a PIN at Popular Bank. Applicants with a medical or emergency or to attend a funeral of a relative may find it necessary to use the phone system to schedule their appointment.
