Ask the Consul
American Citizen Services to Visit Santiago
January 24, 2011
The
American Citizen Services unit of the U. S. Embassy is pleased to announce that
on Wednesday, February 2, it will carry out an outreach event for the U.S.
citizens living in Santiago de los Caballeros and surrounding areas.
American
Citizen Services will visit Santiago on February 2nd, between 10:00
am and 1:00 pm at the Dominican-American Cultural Center Library located at
Avenida Estrella Sahahla #101. During this visit, U.S. citizens will be
able to renew passports and complete notarials. First-time passport
applications and applications for Consular Reports of Birth Abroad are
available only in Santo Domingo and will not be accepted.
Please
make your appointment for Santiago consular services.
A
Federal Benefits representative will also be available, by appointment only,
during the February 2nd Santiago visit. Please call 809-731-4371 Monday
through Thursday between 1.30 and 4.00 pm to schedule a Federal Benefits appointment.
The
U.S. Embassy encourages all American citizens to always keep their passports
current in case of an emergency. In
order to facilitate this for Americans living in Dominican Republic, American
Citizen Services periodically visits cities around the Dominican Republic as
part of its community outreach program. During 2011, we have scheduled six
outreach days in Santiago: February 2, April 6, June 1, August 3, October 5 and
December 7. Additionally, the Embassy
maintains a consular agency in Puerto Plata and is opening a consular agency in
Punta Cana in early 2011, both of which are available to U.S. citizens residing
in the Dominican Republic.
American citizens with urgent travel needs can always
make an emergency appointment online for services in Santo Domingo. To
make an emergency appointment, or to obtain complete information about the
passport application process, please visit the U.S. Citizen Services website.
