Ask the Consul

I heard the consular section is going to require online applications for passports. Is that true?

The American Citizen Services unit of the U.S. consular section would like to inform the public that only a limited number of paper passport applications are available in the unit as the Department of State is reducing the use of paper forms.  Instead, the Department of State is encouraging applicants to go online to download the needed forms.  U.S. citizens may download blank forms from the U.S. Embassy website, http://santodomingo.usembassy.gov, or even better, U.S. citizens may apply for their passport using the Passport Wizard available through our website's forms and information link.

The Passport Wizard will automatically select the appropriate forms for your passport application based on your reponses to the application's questions, and help you avoid unwanted delays on the day you apply.  One of the major causes of delays when applying for a passport is completing the incorrect form.

The Passport Wizard avoids this problem and allows you to receive your passport much faster by speeding up your progress through the line, and that of everyone else.  The Passport Wizard also has a unique feature that prints a bar code onto your application so our staff can scan your application into the computer.  This eliminates most of the manual data entry for us, saving you even more time.  It's yet another way we are working to streamline the passport application process so U.S. citizens receive passports as conveniently as possible and in plenty of time for planned travel.  Be sure to try the online Passport Wizard at http://santodomingo.usembassy.gov to guarantee that your day at the Consular Section is as short as possible.
