Ask the Consul
What fees do I have to pay for consular services at the Consular Section of the Embassy, and how do I pay them?
The United States Government charges fees to provide consular services. The cost and method of payment are different for nonimmigrant visas, immigrant visas, and American citizen services. However, some general rules apply for all three. Fees must be paid only to the consular cashier at window 12. When a fee is charged the consular staff will provide an itemized cost of the services, and the cashier will give you a receipt for the payment. A complete schedule of fees is posted outside the cashier window and on the Department of State website at http://www.travel.state.gov/.
There are 2 fees related to tourist visas, both of which are payable at Banco Popular in dollars or the equivalent in Dominican pesos. These fees are a US$131 fee to process your visa application and a fee of $16 for the PIN. These cannot be paid at the Consular Section.
The fee for immigrant visas is US$400. This fee is normally collected by the National Visa Center (NVC) in the United States when the petition is filed.
The most common ACS services include issuance of passports, consular reports of birth, and notarials. All require fees that must be paid at the consular building and to the consular cashier.
Occasionally there are additional fees that must be paid to the consular cashier if, for example, the full payment was not made to the NVC or if a petition was filed locally or an applicant was added to a case. At all times, these fees will only be collected by the cashier and you will always be given a receipt.
The DOMEX messenger service located inside the consulate collects its own fees and delivers completed documents to your home or office for $12 in Santo Domingo and $16 outside the city.
