Ask the Consul
What are some important things to keep in mind when applying for a visa?
Applying for a visa can be a long process, but here are a few tips to help make it a little easier:
Check the website: The Consular section website has the most current information. Before applying, be sure that you have all of the correct information. The website can be found at: santodomingo.usembassy.gov
Fill out the entire application: The visa application has much of the information that the Consular Officer will need to consider your visa request. If information is missing or incorrect, it will make it more difficult for the officer to make the right decision, or may result in lengthy delays.
Make an appointment: To schedule an appointment, you will need a Personal Identification Number (PIN). A PIN can be purchased at any branch of Popular Bank in the Dominican Republic. After you have your PIN, contact the Visa Information Center at 809-200-3232 to schedule an appointment. Please explain to the operator the purpose of your travel to help determine the visa type that you are requesting.
Don't pay extra money: Except for your PIN, visa application fee and courier service to return you passport, it is not necessary to pay for other services to apply for a visa. If you need photos, there is a photographer inside of the Consular Section. The charge is 200 pesos for 6 photographs. The application form is designed so that each applicant is able to fill out the application. There is no need to pay for a lawyer or any other person to complete the application for you.
Always tell the truth: It is important to tell the complete truth on your application and in the interview. Not telling the truth or withholding important information could have serious consequences, including denial of a visa or revocation of an issued visa. These are just a few tips to help you in the visa application process.
