Is an email from the National Visa Center a valid appointment letter? Can I use the email to schedule a medical evaluation? How can I share my email address with the National Visas Center?

Yes!  An email from the National Visa Center (NVC) is a valid appointment letter.  In fact, it is the ONLY appointment letter that applicants, petitioners, and agents will receive if they have provided an email address.   Therefore, the email can and should be used to schedule medical appointments.

Applicants can provide an email address to the NVC in a variety of ways.  Applicants who complete the DS-3032 (Choice of Agent and Address Form) may include their email on the form.  Soon, a new DS-230 will offer the chance to include an email address as well.

Applicants, agents, and petitioners are encouraged to use e-mail when sending case inquiries.  Please email: NVCInquiry@state.gov (public inquiries).  NVC will associate the email address with the applicant's case.

The immigration and nationality act requires that all immigrant visa applicants, regardless of age, undergo medical examination before receiving a visa.

The doctors selected by the consular section are the only doctors authorized to conduct medical examinations for visa applicants.  The doctor's office is called Consultorios de Visa and is located in Santo Domingo, on Avenida Independecia #202 next to Clinica Abreu.  You may go to Consultorios de Visa any working day between 7:00 am and 10:00 am for your medical examination.  Remember that you must take your appointment letter whether you are an immigrant visa applicant of a fiancé (K1) applicant.  Because the results of the medical examination can take several days, we recommend you go to Consultorios de Visa at least five working days before you go to the Consular Section for your visa interview. For more information on the medical exams please visit our web page at www.santodomingo.usembassy.gov.
