Ask the Consul
Can I make an online appointment to get a U.S. passport?
To make it easier to obtain your first U.S. passport or to renew your current passport, we now offer an online appointment system for passports. The process is straightforward. Just go to the website for the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo at http://santodomingo.usembassy.gov, follow the link to the online appointment system under Citizen Services/Passports, and select the appointment date and time which works best for you. You also have the option to fill out an online passport application. Just follow the Citizen Services link, provide the requested information, and print your completed application. The new online application has a barcode that allows us to scan information instantly at your appointment and reduce your waiting time. Be sure to comply with all documentary requirements as explained on our site, and come to your appointment with the printed application, two passport photos as well as the appropriate fee. First time adult passports cost $100, children are $85, and passport renewals cost $75.
The new online appointment system and online application form are designed to improve service for U.S. citizens, making it quicker and easier to obtain a U.S. passport. Please keep in mind that blank applications are still available online as well as at the consular section for completing by hand. Appointments can also still be made by phone, but call-in hours will gradually be reduced as the volume of appointments shifts more to the online system.
