U.S. Consular Section provides Services to U.S. Citizens in Jarabacoa

SANTO DOMINGO - As part of our outreach program, the American Citizens Services (ACS) Unit of the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy will visit Jarabacoa on Thursday, May 21, to provide selected services to U.S. citizens residing in that city and surrounding areas, which are normally obtained only in Santo Domingo.

For this visit, U.S. citizens resident in the area may deposit  applications for passport renewals, notarize documents, and make inquiries related to Social Security and U.S. Veterans benefits. First time passport applications can only be made in Santo Domingo.

This event will be held at the Hermanos Ramirez Coffee Factory located on Carretera Belarminio Ramirez, Altos del Yaque, Jarabacoa starting at 9:30 a.m.  All services  will be offered by appointment only.  To make appointments applicants will need to call 809-731-4468, Monday through Thursday from 1:30 pm 3:30 p.m.  To make an appointment with the Federal Benefits Unit for Social Security related cases, call 809-731-4371 between 1:30 pm and 4:00 p.m.  U.S. citizens with appointments must show up on time to ensure the application can be processed before the consular team is scheduled to leave.  Remember you can always come to the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo if you have an urgent need to travel.

It is important to remember that the law requires the presence of both parents of any child under the age of 16 at the time of the passport application.  Parent's identifications and evidence of parentage must be attached to applications.  If a parent can not appear to submit the application, he/she must provide written authorization to the appearing parent and attach a copy of a photo ID with visible signature; such authorization must be in English and duly notarized.  The cost of renewals for adults is US $75 and for minors US $ 85.

To facilitate the passport process for all applicants, the Consular Section is using the services of a private courier to deliver passports to our customers' homes once they have been approved.  This service has an additional cost of US $ 16 per family, and may be paid in either dollars or pesos.  Please be ready to bring this fee with you, as this payment is a requirement and the passport cannot be approved without it.  For more information about the fees for issuing passports and application requirements, visit our website at: http://santodomingo.usembassy.gov/passports-e.html
