Ask the Consul
I am an American citizen. Do I have to wait in long lines for citizen services?
Many services for American citizens can now be handled promptly without having to wait in line to enter the Consular Section building. Our new changes will save American citizens a lot of time and the inconvenience of having to pass through security checkpoints. Returning applicants with additional information for their cases, all notarial services, and applicants in need of general information will now receive expedited walk-up service without an appointment at Window 26, which faces the outside of the Consular Section building along Avenida Maximo Gomez. As before, applicants with appointments will continue to enter the Consular Section building, but they should now experience much shorter lines when being screened for entry, and will also find that the lines inside move more quickly. Those who still require appointments include first time applicants for passports, applicants replacing a lost or stolen passport, and applicants for Reports of Birth who have completed the applications obtained at Window 26 and are ready to schedule their interview. This new procedure is designed to provide American citizens with more efficient service while reducing the amount of time spent at the Consular Section Please note the following schedule for Window 26:
For document drop-off in pending passport and Report of Birth cases, for application packets or information: Monday through Thursday between 2:00 and 2:30
For dropping off documents for notarial services: Monday or Thursday between 11:00 and 11:30
(You will these notarized documents the same day at 2:00 inside the Consular building.)
If the consular officer tells you at your interview that you need another appointment, please call (809) 731-4468 between 1:00 and 3:30, Monday through Thursday, when you are ready to make your new appointment.
