Office Hours and Location

The Consular Section is located in the “La Esperilla” section of Santo Domingo, on the corner of César Nicolás Penson Street and Máximo Gómez Avenue. The U.S. Citizens Services (ACS) Unit is closed on all Dominican and U.S. holidays, as well as on Administrative Days.  The building is accessible to the disabled.  General office hours are 7:00am - 4:30pm Monday - Thursday, and 7:30am - 11:30am on Friday.  Our working hours for specific services are listed below.

All U.S. Citizen Services with the exception of Federal Benefits services and applications for adults over 18 applying for their first passport are provided at the Consular Agencies in Punta Cana and Puerto Plata. For your convenience, we recommend that you use the Consular Agencies for services if they are closer to your geographical location. The Agencies tend to have shorter wait times and be less crowded.

Passport Services:
Passport interviews are by appointment only.  In Santo Domingo, you  need to make an appointment using our online appointment system

Report of Birth Services:
Report of Birth interviews are by appointment only.  Download information and application forms from our Consular Report of Birth checklist (PDF - 240 Kb).  Applying for a Consular Report of Birth Abroad for your child in Santo Domingo requires two separate interviews, if you are fully prepared.  Once you have obtained all of the information, you can make an appointment using our online appointment system for the first of the two required interviews.

Notarial Services:
In Santo Domingo, Notarial services DO NOT require an appointment.  Pay the notarial fees and drop off documents for notarization on Monday or Thursday, 11:00 am - 11:30 am at the American Citizens Services lobby of the Consular building on Ave. Maximo Gomez.   Applicants return at 2:00 p.m. the same day and enter the Consular Section to pick up the notarized documents.

General Information and Pending Document Drop-off:
In Santo Domingo, get general information and drop off documents pending for existing cases at the American Citizens Services lobby of the Consular building on Ave. Maximo Gomez, Monday through Thursday, 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm.  At one of the Consular Agencies, please email Punta Cana Consular Agency or Puerto Plata Consular Agency, or by phone calling (809) 552-8990 for Punta Cana or calling telephone numbers (809) 586-8017, (809) 586-4204, (809) 586-8023 for Puerto Plata.

Emergency Services:
Call (809) 221-2171 to speak to an American Citizen Services representative, or come to the main entry of the Consular section.
Monday - Thursday, 7:00 am. - 4:30 pm
