Ask the Consul

I have an appointment for an immigrant visa interview, what time should I arrive at the Consular Section?

All visa applicants should arrive no earlier than 6:00 am.  Arriving before 6:00 am serves you no purpose.  You will not be served first because you are first in a line that formed before 6:00 am.  Any line that has formed earlier is reorganized by Consular staff to conform to the scheduling particulars of each day.

Resident visa applicants often must spend the entire day at the Consular section.  It can be a very long day.  To arrive before 6:00 am, especially when there is really no benefit to do so, makes the day even longer.  It subjects you and your family members, especially children and the elderly, to needless and tiresome waiting.

Everyone knows that a successful visa interview depends on a well-prepared applicant.  You want to be as fresh and well-rested as possible for your interview.  So, try to maximize the amount of sleep you get the night before your interview.

Plan to arrive at the Consular building at 6:00 am, not earlier.
