Processing a U. S. Passport in Santo Domingo

The American Citizens Services (ACS) Unit of the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo accepts passport applications, provides additional passport pages, and processes amendments to passports as necessary.  All passport applicants must apply in person.  You need to make an appointment for any passport applications that require an interview (see below criteria).

Passports are delivered via a courier service.  The fee is $12 for delivery within Santo Domingo or $16 for delivery outside of Santo Domingo.  Approved passports require three weeks for processing and delivery.  American citizens are encouraged to apply early to prevent unforeseen delays and expenses.

Not all passport applications require an interview

       If:

    1. You already have a passport that is not damaged; and

    2. It was issued within the past 15 years; and

    3. You were at least age 16 when it was issued; and

    4. Still have the same name in your most recent passport (or you can legally document your name

       change).

You may utilize our Renewal Drop Off Service. Please click here: Passports – Renewals for Adults.

All other passport applications require a consular interview and are by appointment only.  To make an appointment for an interview, please call 809 731-4468 between the hours of 1-3:30 pm, Monday through Thursday.   In emergency circumstances, walk-in applications are accepted and a limited passport can be printed locally.  Emergency circumstances include serious illness, death of an immediate family member, or (for tourists only) previously scheduled return travel to the U.S. after a passport has been lost or stolen.  Such passports will be limited in validity, and cannot be extended.  You will be asked to provide proof of your emergency.  Individuals in such situations may ‘walk-in’ to the Consular Section any day to apply for a passport.
