American Citizen Services
Passport Appointment System
The American Citizen Services (ACS) Unit of the US Consular Section is
pleased to announce the creation of a new Passport Appointment System. Due to
the implementation of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), the
number of people needing passport services has increased almost 100% from last
year. The consequence of this higher demand has been longer waits for those
coming to apply for a passport. These longer waits are counter to the type of
Customer Service we wish to provide. In order to minimize the amount of time
people spend in the Consular Section, we will be refining two aspects of our
passport process. The first involves a passport appointment system for those
who must undergo an interview; the second involves a small change to our
passport renewal process. The phone number for the passport appointment and
information system is 809 731-4468. An operator will be available to make
appointments 1-3:30 Monday through Thursday. At all other times, the phone
number can be called to receive recorded information about passport processing.
Passport appointment system
The ACS Unit will be introducing a passport appointment system, effective
Monday, August 6, 2007, for those passport applicants who require interviews.
An appointment system will allow us to more efficiently process passport
applications and will mean better service for you, our most important client.
Since we are discontinuing the current walk-in system of applying for a
passport, one immediate effect will be that you will need to plan ahead when
applying for a passport (i.e. do not wait until your passport expires!) We
believe the appointment system will allow us to provide faster and more
efficient service than our previous walk-in system.
The process
The process is easy. Simply call 809 731-4468 between the hours of 1pm –
3:30pm Monday through Thursday to make an appointment. Generally, the
appointment time/date given will be the next available slot in the schedule.
The operator will need only the name and date of birth of every person applying
for a passport in order to schedule an appointment. The operator will not be
able to answer any questions about applying for a passport. Should you have any
questions about how to apply for a passport or what documents to bring, you can
access recorded information at any time to access recorded information about
passport processing in Santo Domingo. Information about Santo Domingo passport
requirements can also be found on our web page at
www.embajadausa.gov.do/Consular/ACS/acs-e.htm. It is essential that you
review our documentary requirements prior to coming for your interview. To
avoid a repeat trip to the passport office, it is vital that you come prepared
to your interview and bring the proper documents. If you are documentarily
unprepared, you will need to re-schedule your interview.
Passport Renewal – maybe you do not need to schedule an interview
Many adults renewing passports do not need to undergo an interview. You do
not need to make an appointment if you meet the following criteria:
-
You were over the age of 16 when you received
your previous passport,
-
Your passport was issued less than 15 years ago,
-
You are using the same name as listed on your
previous passport (or you can legally document your name change), and
-
Your current passport is not damaged.
If you meet all of the criteria above, there is no need to make an
appointment. Simply bring your completed passport renewal form (DS-82), your
old passport (and a photo-copy of the passport), and $67 any Monday, Wednesday,
or Thursday between 10:00-11:00am. Note that all forms are available at the
Consular Section or you may obtain them on the web at
http://travel.state.gov/passport.
Pending Cases
Note: For those of you who have already had an interview
and your case was ‘pended’ for additional information or documentation, you do
not need to make an appointment. Simply bring your ‘pending’ sheet and the
requested information on one of our passport processing days – Monday,
Wednesday, Thursday, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
We hope this new service will make your visit to the
American Citizen Services unit shorter, yet more fruitful and enjoyable. For
